The Samuel L. Berg Collection

The Berg Collection presented a wonderful opportunity to cement the reciprocal relationship between the Newark Public Library and Rutgers University - Newark.

After digitally preserving the images in the collection, we worked with the Digital Humanities Librarian at Rutgers Dana Library to create a mapping interface to allow a more user-friendly exploration of the collection.

This evolved into curricular development, as the collection and its mapping interface were employed in undergraduate Journalism courses to illustrate the effects of Urban Renewal on the cityscape and give students a "forensic photography" practicum and focus for a series of multimedia projects.
